We will beat Gernot Rohr
Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu has revealed that although he is looking forward to meeting Gernot Rohr, he is targeting a victory against the Franco-German’s Benin side on Monday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles stumbled for the third consecutive time on Friday after getting dragged to a 1-1 draw against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
It was Nigeria’s third consecutive draw in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and it has put their chances of qualifying for the World Cup in the balance.
Nonetheless, coach Finidi and his boys have the perfect game to use to bounce back. They play Benin at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Cote d’Ivoire on Monday, a fixture which they are favorites to win on paper.
Ahead of the fixture, Onuachu, who started the game against South Africa has stated that he is looking forward to meeting Benin coach Rohr. This is because it was the Franco-German tactician that gave him his Super Eagles debut in 2019. Nonetheless, Onuachu will leave the pleasantries for outside the pitch, as he is targeting a win.
“It will be good to go to Benin and see him again and say hello because he gave me my first call-up. I thank him for that and I appreciate him. But that doesn’t mean for us not to go there and beat him,” Onuachu told Modo Victor.
Gernot Rohr was Nigeria’s coach from 2016 to 2019, but he was sacked under controversial circumstances. He will also be looking to get one over his previous employers- the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
