USWNT to face Brazil, Canada, Japan at 2023 SheBelieves Cup
The annual SheBelieves Cup is back in the United States this February with Brazil, Canada, and Japan making the trip.
U.S. Soccer announced on Friday that Vlatko Andonovski’s team will host the annual tournament at Exploria Stadium, GEODIS Park, and Toyota Stadium. The tournament will run from February 16-22 and will feature four teams that are currently in the top 12 of FIFA’s Women Rankings.
This will be the second slate of matches for the USWNT in 2023 following a two-match roadtrip against New Zealand. All four teams will take part in three matches apiece with February 16th, 19th, and 22nd being chosen as match days.
“The first five games of the 2023 schedule will all be against teams playing in the World Cup and we expect to confirm a few more matches against top opponents before we go to New Zealand during the summer,” said Andonovski. “We love the SheBelieves Cup for the world class competition it brings, the format that helps replicate group play at a World Cup and the overall meaning that it has for our team and women’s sports.
“Obviously, you get more rest days in a World Cup, but managing a roster with three games over seven days against teams with three very different styles of play is really good preparation for us as we continue to grow as a team towards next summer,” he added.
The USWNT will open its three-match schedule on the 16th against Canada (7 p.m. ET) before facing Japan (3:30 p.m. ET) on the 19th and Brazil on the 22nd (7 p.m. ET).
Brazil, Canada, and Japan have all clinched their berths into the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
