USWNT joined by Brazil, Canada, Japan for 2024 SheBelieves Cup
The U.S. women’s national team now knows who it will face at the 2024 SheBelieves Cup.
Brazil, Canada, and Japan will join the Americans in the annual competition on U.S. soil, U.S. Soccer announced Friday. Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Columbus’ Lower.com Field will serve as host venues for the competition.
The competition will feature four of the world’s Top 11 teams in the FIFA Women’s Rankings.
“This is a tournament that features three teams already in the Olympics and Japan has a great chance to qualify, so coming off the Gold Cup, these are the exact kinds of games we need to evaluate players and continue to push our team as we prepare for France,” said U.S. interim head coach Twila Kilgore.
“One great thing about the SheBelieves Cup is that it goes a long way in replicating the group stage at the Olympics, both in the short amount of rest you get between games while also facing teams with different styles of play during a group stage. The games will be great tests for all the teams and fun for the fans ahead of the Olympics.”
The USWNT will face Japan on April 6 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium while Brazil and Canada also square off later that evening. The winners from those matches will face off at Lower.com Field on April in the tournament Championship while the losers will square off in the third-place match.
The Americans have won the SheBelieves Cup on six occasions, including each of the last four overall.
