USMNT – Canada headlines This Weekend’s Soccer on TV
After topping Group A with back-to-back 6-0 victories, the U.S. men’s national team faces a familiar opponent for a spot in the Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals.
Canada opposes the USMNT for the second time in two months, hoping to end its recent winless run against the Americans. A 4-2 group stage finale win over Cuba helped the Canadians sneak into the runners-up spot in Group D.
Sunday’s match marks the second-consecutive Concacaf tournament where the USMNT will face off with its northern neighbors in the knockout round. A 2-0 Nations League victory over Canada helped B.J. Callaghan lift his first trophy as interim head coach.
Jesus Ferreira and Junior Hoilett headline the attacking options for both teams.
Gold Cup actions continues with Group D winners Guatemala going head-to-head with Jamaica. Both nations remain unbeaten ahead of the knockout rounds and will look to keep it that way.
For the first time in Gold Cup history, Guatemala finished at the top of its group thanks to a 3-2 victory over Guadeloupe in group stage play.
On the other hand, Jamaica looks prime for its first Gold Cup in the country’s history. Despite their second place finish in Group A, the Reggae Boyz finished the group stage unbeaten while scoring ten goals and only conceding two.
Major League Soccer continues with a Western Conference showdown when the San Jose Earthquakes travel to BMO Stadium to take on Los Angeles FC. The Black and Gold dropped points in back-to-back matches and will hope they can return to winning ways.
In Brazil, first meets second when Botafogo travels to Gremio in Serie A action. Botafogo visits Arena do Gremio with a seven-point lead over its latest opponents.
