UEFA Women’s Champions League headlines This Weeks Soccer on TV

The European season may be put on hold for several of the world’s top mens leagues, but the action does not stop for the UEFA Women’s Champions League this week.

Olympique Lyon hosts Chelsea in the headlining contest this Wednesday with two of the tournament favorites squaring off for first-leg action in France. Lyon is riding a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions, which includes five-straight victories. Wendie Renard leads the way with six goals while U.S. women’s national team midfielder Lindsey Horan has five tallies of her own.

Chelsea sits top of the Women’s Super League and will provide a strong test for Lyon this week. Three-straight wins over Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United, and Reading have confidence sky high in the Lady Blues squad, especially with some top attacking talent of their own to call on. Sam Kerr leads the team with five goals in WUCL play while Pernille Harder has three herself.

Several top European clubs also remain in the competition with Paris Saint-Germain vs. Wolfsburg sitting as the mouthwatering showdown on the other side of the bracket.

European Qualifiers also take place this week with Italy hosting England on Thursday and Finland visiting Denmark in the top matchups.

The English League One campaign rolls on with league-leaders Sheffield Wednesday facing a tricky test at fourth-place Barnsley. Barnsley remains eight points out of the final automatic promotion spot while Sheffield Wednesday sits three points clear of the third-place Ipswich Town. Josh Windass and Michael Smith have combined for 22 league goals for the Owls while Devante Cole leads Barnsley with 10 goals of his own.

Concacaf Nations League action resumes this week with Mexico’s trip to Suriname serving as the top match in Thursday’s slate. Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic will also be in action in their respective groups.
