UEFA Super Cup: Kylian Mbappe outshines Ademola Lookman as Real Madrid down Atalanta to claim another European title
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman failed to score as Atalanta fell to a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.
Europa League champions Atalanta took to the pitch against UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid for the final of the Super Cup at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw.
Los Blancos were favourites to win the game because of their array of stars. French forward Kylian Mbappe made his first competitive start for Real Madrid, adding some bit in their final third.
On the other hand, Atalanta had Lookman, who singlehandedly won them the Europa League last season in their attack. He was also joined by Charles De Ketelaere in a two-pronged attack.
Real Madrid dominated the early exchanges, with, but Atalanta soon got into their groove and had some good chances. However, none of them managed to find the net before halftime.
The second half was a different proposition, as Real Madrid looked more dangerous in the attack. They eventually broke the deadlock in the 59th minute courtesy of Federico Valverde,
Jude Bellingham had two good chances to score, but he eventually turned provider setting Mbappe up for Real Madrid’s second in the 68th minute. Lookman looked very lively in the game, but the other Atalanta forwards did not look like they were up for it. They failed to give him options in the final third, and none of them failed to create any clear-cut chances.
The game eventually ended 2-0 to Real Madrid, who sealed their place as the overall champions of Europe.

Next up for Lookman and his Atalanta side is their Serie A opener against Lecce next Monday.
