Two clubs target Chelsea’s Chilwell in January transfer – Paper Round
Crystal Palace and Ipswich are both monitoring Ben Chilwell despite the Chelsea defender returning to first-team training, The Sun reports. The full-back had been part of the “bomb squad” training away from the first team under Enzo Maresca.
And while that omission may be over, having been named in their Premier League squad, there is still talk of the full-back moving on in January after a summer transfer failed to materialise.
The Sun writes: “Sources say the ex-Leicester City star is concerned about the lack of game-time he is likely to get in West London – and is open-minded to a transfer.
“That has put Palace and Ipswich on red alert over a deal for the 21-cap England international.
“Chelsea are also thought to be keen to explore the option of letting Chilwell leave as they grapple with the demands of trying to manage a massive squad.
“It comes just weeks after it seemed Chilwell had secured a dramatic pathway back into the fold at Chelsea after being named in their Premier League squad.”
Musiala contract talks ‘difficult’
Premier League clubs are on alert after Bayern Munich director Max Eberl conceded contract talks with Jamal Musiala’s representatives have been “difficult”, the Mirror reports.
Musiala is contracted to Bayern until summer 2026, but that opens the door for a 2025 move should he look to run down his current deal. It would appear talks are ongoing with numerous clubs waiting in the wing.
The Mirror adds: “He has been courted by Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United, among others – and that interest has strengthened his hand in negotiations. There have been reports that Musiala’s representatives are demanding £300,000-a-week – wages that would put him in the same bracket as star striker Harry Kane.
“Bayern reportedly value Musiala at £120million – a figure designed to fend off other sides – and have been trying to turn on the charm for the Germany international, with president Herbert Hainer lavishing him in praise last week. “Many say that he will one day be the best player in the world,” he said.”
Amad set for Man Utd extension
Manchester United are set to offer Amad Diallo a new contract, the Manchester Evening News reports. Despite entering the final year of his contract, United have the option for an additional year, but they are expected to offer the 22-year-old a long-term deal in the coming months.
The MEN adds: “If a renewal has not been agreed before the new year then United will trigger the extension to prevent Amad’s representatives from negotiating a pre-contract with an overseas club in the January transfer window.
“Amad has started in seven of United’s last nine games and he was named the club’s player of the month for August. During the pre-season tour, he expressed his wish to spend the remainder of his career at United.”
