Ten Hag: Man Utd ‘in a very good position’ despite ‘setbacks’ in campaign
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes his side are in a “very good position” in the Premier League despite some “setbacks”.
That lifted them into sixth position, three points off Liverpool in fourth, though Jurgen Klopp’s team have a game in hand.
In the league, despite racking up seven wins, they have lost their other five games with some pressure coming the Dutchman’s way.
Speaking after the win at Old Trafford, Ten Hag suggested United were well placed despite their struggles.
He told reporters: “Even after all the setbacks we dealt with, we are still in a position, close to the top four. And when we start to play well, when we get it done, a team that is set for couple of weeks and months. Also, other teams will get setbacks and will also drop points.
“Now, we won our last four games from five in the Premier League, which is good. We are actually in a quite good position, if you oversee all the trouble we have had, we are in a very good position.”
Discussing the tight win over the Premier League new boys, Ten Hag suggested that a failure to get a goal earlier had kept the game tight.
“We could have made life more easy when you score goals,” he explained. “But I think we created many chances. First half, I observed four 100% chances. If you get the first [goal], you get the second.
“Then it becomes more easy. But if you don’t score then you can always drop a ball in the box of wrong position and you are in trouble. We had to fight until the end and then it’s maybe not the prettiest, but if you oversee, I’m happy with that, we created many chances.”
United are back in action on November 26 after the international break when they visit Everton in the Premier League.
