Super Eagles B add to Ghana’s woes as Sodiq, Junior, and Isaac shine in Uyo victory
The Super Eagles B team secured their place in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a commanding 3-1 victory over the Black Galaxies of Ghana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Soccernet.ng reports.
Heading into the second leg of the clash with the aggregate score tied at 0-0 in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria wasted no time assert dominance, as they scored three first-half goals to seal the tie effectively.
In the 19th minute, Remos Stars defender, Sodiq Ismail opened the scoring with a calm finish, putting the home side in the lead.

Two minutes later, captain Nduka Junior doubled the CHAN Eagles’ advantage, slotting home from close range to make it 2-0.
The Black Galaxies’ defence was punished again in the 25th minute when Rangers International F.C player Isaac Saviour capitalised on a defensive error to extend the lead to 3-0, leaving Ghana with a mountain to climb.

Despite Nigeria’s dominance, Ghana managed to pull one back in the second half. In the 73rd minute, Stephen Amankuna scored a consolation goal with a well-taken strike, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
The victory ensures Nigeria’s qualification for the CHAN tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in 2024, while Ghana’s elimination adds to their recent football struggles after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
