Former Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios has claimed that it’s too early to write off Bucs for the PSL title race, speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma.
The MTN8 champions had a slow start in their league campaign but they have fought hard and risen to third on the league standings since then.

Palacios has pointed out that the club’s slow start was due to their involvement in both the MTN8 and the CAF Champions League at the time.
He believes that after winning the MTN8 and unfortunately losing in the Champions League and the Carling Knockout, they have improved in the league and will fight for the title going forward.
“It’s still very early to write off the team for the league title. More especially if you are talking about a team like Orlando Pirates. Look at how they did last season. They started more less like this season but they finished strongly. But I think this season they are even better if you consider all the competitions they have taken part in and still they are in the top three on the log,” Palacios told the Siya crew.
“They can compete with Mamelodi Sundowns. They will actually give them a good run for their money. You can’t write Pirates off from fighting for the league. That is in their DNA. It’s in their culture to always be fighting for the title. Not just other trophies but the league as well.
“They have one of the best squads in the league. Whichever player is on the field on that day is top quality and gives the team their best. You know it’s still just the first round of the league and anything is possible in the second round where teams fight for relegation and the top eight.
“But if you look at how Pirates have played their last three to four games in the league, then you can see that they are in for a good fight and will give their all until the end. They still stand a chance of winning the league this season despite that Sundowns are on top with the 11-game unbeaten run. Things can change in football and another team can do the same. Pirates can do the same ,” the former Bafana Bafana coach concluded.
