After they were slapped with severe punishment by the Premier Soccer League, the Siya crew has been informed of the latest happenings at Moroka Swallows.

Due to a financial standoff between players and management Swallows cancelled their last two fixtures of 2023 against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows respectively, a decision which landed them in hot water with the league.

As a result, the club were deemed to have lost both matches by a 3-0 scoreline, and in addition, the club were fined R1 million (of which R600 000 was suspended for or 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence in this period) as well as the cost of the legal proceedings.

Now, as they look forward, Swallows have begun their own internal processes with regards to player disciplinary hearings.

Speaking to the Siya crew at the Multichoice-powered Player Transition Programme in partnership with the PSL and GIBS, Daniel Akpeyi confirmed that there have been developments with regards to players, with the club hoping to begin a mini pre-season before the resumption of the league Iin February.

“They are beginning to resolve that issue because as I am here now, there is a disciplinary hearing with some of the players, which is on – but unfortunately, I cannot be there at this point in time,” he told journalists.

“From the information that I’ve gathered so far, they are trying to resolve it and they are trying to get back into the mid pre-season before the league kicks off.

Swallows’ next match is against Cape Town City at the Athlone Stadium on 13 February.
