Premier League: Iheanacho and Ndidi fail to stop Leicester City’s rot as Newcastle United break 20-year debacle
Leicester City needed a victory against Newcastle to climb out of the relegation zone, but they were second-best on the night
Super Eagles stars Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho featured for Leicester City as they held Newcastle United to a goalless draw at the King Power Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Leicester City welcomed Newcastle United to the King Power in a game that held a lot of significance.
A win for Dean Smith’s men would take them out of the relegation zone and climb above Everton. While a point for Newcastle United would seal their place in the UEFA Champions League spots.
Newcastle started the game well bossing the possession and trying to carve out the Foxes’ defense. The Foxes looked clueless on the night, and Iheanacho’s partnership with Vardy did not yield any results.
Ndidi had a slightly better game even though the Magpies bossed play. Iheanacho was taken off at halftime and he was replaced by James Maddison.
Still, the game didn’t change except that Leicester City registered an attempt on goal. Ndidi registered five tackles, two interceptions, two block shots, 28 touches, and won all six of his duels.
Unfortunately, he was taken off in the 89th minute after he sustained an injury. The game ended goalless, and the result ensured that Newcastle sealed their spot in the Champions League for next season.
But for Leicester City, it is a fight till the end. They can still survive relegation if they beat West Ham in their final game of the season and Everton lose to Bournemouth.
