Osimhen delivers Samsunspor verdict, speaks on Galatasaray future amid links to Chelsea, PSG

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen says Galatasaray “have the quality to win every match” after his goal helped the Turkish champions secure a 2-0 victory away to Samsunspor on Friday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The on-loan Napoli striker continued his sensational scoring form with a composed finish just 60 seconds into the second half at the Samsun 19 May Stadium.

His strike, set up brilliantly by Yunus Akgün, put the game beyond the reach of the hosts and moved Galatasaray closer to their title ambitions.

The 26-year-old Nigerian now has an eye-catching tally of 29 goals and six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions this season, reinforcing his status as one of Europe’s most coveted forwards.

What Osimhen said after Galatasaray beat Samsunspor

After the match, Osimhen reflected on both the team’s performance and his own growing form, while also addressing rumours surrounding his future.

“We were a bit rushed in the first half, we actually wanted to show ourselves, how good we are… We started playing fast and forward,” Osimhen said, as per Galatasaray’s official website.

“We needed to have a bit more ball. We knew our opponent, they were both tough opponents and something that suited their playing style—in fact our rushing was to their advantage. We played more patiently in the second half. I am also happy with my goal contribution. We need to continue by adding to this. We need to carry this momentum forward.”

Osimhen’s goal came at a vital time, helping Galatasaray maintain their lead in the Süper Lig title race, as the club aims for its 24th Turkish top-flight crown and the elusive fifth star on their badge.

“The focus is on us right now. We have a responsibility as a team. We want to win. We actually have the quality to win every match. It is not easy, we will face very important opponents.

“We need to be prepared to overcome these opponents and lift this cup at the end of the season, we just need to fight. We need to give everything when we step on the field. I think we will have the advantage at the end of the season, but as I said, it will not be easy.”

Osimhen also addressed ongoing transfer speculation, with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Juventus all reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

“There are always rumours about me, of course. But I prefer to live in the moment. I am enjoying myself right now. I am enjoying both the club and my life here. The fans have also been incredibly supportive since the first day, all stakeholders within Galatasaray, everyone has helped me. They have always been there for me, not just me, but also my friends and family.

“Now I will fight for the fifth star with my team, and a decision will be made at the end of the season about what will be best for everyone. Galatasaray will forever be in my heart.”

Osimhen and Nigeria’s World Cup hopes

While speculation around his club future continues, Osimhen’s blistering form is also a timely boost for Nigeria, who are preparing for the Unity Cup tournament in London.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be counting on his star forward to deliver in front of goal as Nigeria attempts to revive their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes.

The three-time African champions currently sit fourth in their qualification group, six points adrift of leaders South Africa, after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Zimbabwe.

With time running out and pressure mounting, Chelle will hope Osimhen’s red-hot form for Galatasaray can inspire a turnaround for the Super Eagles.
