While numerous suitors vied for the signature of the talented teenager, Vålerenga emerged victorious in securing Onyebuchi.

The club expressed enthusiasm for integrating him into the squad, highlighting the strategic importance of the acquisition.

“This is my dream, and I am very happy to be here. I come here to win and to take the next step in my career,” Onyebuchi said after the deal was done, underlining his eagerness to contribute to the success of the capital club.

Sports director Joacim Jonsson, delighted with the addition of Onyebuchi, acknowledged the similarities between the newcomer and former Vålerenga player Chidera Ejuke.

Super Eagles winger Ejuke, renowned for his dribbling ability, currently plies his trade with Belgium’s Royale Antwerp.

Jonsson hinted that Onyebuchi might surpass Ejuke’s achievements at the same age.

“If I were to compare Obasi with a player who has been at the club before, I would say Chidera Ejuke.

“They are quite similar in player type, but Obasi is probably a bit further along than Chiddi was at the same age,” Jonsson explained.

Despite recognising Onyebuchi’s immense talent, Jonsson maintained a realistic outlook, emphasising the developmental process.

“This is a player we will help develop and who we can hopefully enjoy for a long time. We have followed him for a long time and are looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in the royal blue suit,” Jonsson concluded, setting the stage for an exciting journey for Obasi Onyebuchi with Vålerenga FC.
