While Joshua Zirkzee stole the headlines with his matchwinning impact off the bench against Fulham on Friday, Noussair Mazraoui was another debutant who impressed during his first outing in the red shirt.

Indeed, while our Man of the Match award went to goalscorer Zirkzee, the top scorer in the popular Fantasy Premier League game on the night was Mazraoui, who looked very accomplished at right-back before being withdrawn for another debutant in Matthijs de Ligt, with nine minutes of normal time remaining.

With all of the first round of top-flight matches completed by Leicester City’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Monday night, the opening Team of the Week of the season includes our Morocco international, as part of a three-man defence.

The three bonus points for Mazaraoui helped him amass eight in total, as he also helped keep a clean sheet on his maiden appearance.

Pedro Porro, the Spurs scorer at the King Power Stadium, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joel Veltman, who is likely to face us in our next assignment on Saturday, complete the backline in front of keeper Nick Pope of Newcastle United.

Mohamed Salah was the highest scorer across gameweek one and he is joined by Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, plus Manchester City’s Mateo Kovacic, Newcastle’s matchwinner Joelinton and Brentford forward Yoane Wisa in the line-up.

Ex-Red Danny Welbeck is the final member of the XI, again we look forward to meeting up with him on the south coast this weekend.

After one game each, Saturday’s opponents Brighton lead the way in the fledgling table following their convincing 3-0 victory at Everton.

Last season’s top four all made winning starts – Manchester City won 2-0 at Chelsea, while Arsenal beat Wolves and Liverpool overcame Ipswich Town by the same scoreline. Aston Villa triumphed 2-1 away to West Ham United.

Brentford (2-1 in the London derby with Crystal Palace) and 10-man Newcastle United, 1-0 at home to Southampton, also picked up three points.

Aside from the aforementioned 1-1 between Leicester and Spurs, the only other draw came at Nottingham Forest, where the spoils were shared with Bournemouth due to another 1-1 result.
