Man United fans fume as Jamie Carragher excludes Erik ten Hag from nine-man shortlist for manager of the year
Jamie Carragher has managed to rile Manchester United supporters by excluding Erik ten Hag from his nominations for manager of the season.
That’s despite naming no-less than nine different top flight bosses for the prize, almost half of those currently competing in the Premier League.
The Liverpool legend had taken to social media after seeing Brighton secure a 3-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, a result that pushes them into sixth place with at least one game in hand on the clubs around them.
Carragher tweeted: “What a performance from Brighton yet again today, their manager could be manager of the season. Has there ever been so many candidates for that award?!!”
He then went on to list his nine nominations, which included Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Eddie Howe, Roberto De Zerbi, Unai Emery, Thomas Frank, Gary O’Neil, Marco Silva and Julen Lopetegui.
But in the replies to his tweet, a number of Manchester United fans noted the absence of Erik ten Hag, leading to several unhappy responses.
One fan wrote: “Erik ten Hag doing better in first season than Pep [Guardiola] and [Jurgen] Klopp yet not nominated.”
Another said: “A whole post just to vent jealousy of ETH [Erik ten Hag].”
A third Man United supporter said: “Why isn’t Erik ten Hag listed?? United had their worst season last year.
“He’s won the Carabao Cup, reached the Europa semi final, currently on course for a top 4 finish and is in the FA Cup final. I’d say he’s in with a shout.”
Meanwhile another simply added: “Erik ten Hag should be in this list Jamie. Look at where Manchester United came from.”
The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Premier League, four points ahead of fifth place Liverpool.
Having already won the Carabao Cup, United face rivals Man City in June’s FA Cup final.
