Lokomotiv Moscow withdraw pursuit of Super Eagles star amidst Russia’s conflict
KAA Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha is currently drawing significant interest from several European clubs, though Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow is no longer in the running, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international has attracted attention from Premier League sides, Serie A teams, and Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim.
Italian sources have linked Torunarigha to Torino, with Bologna also expressing interest in securing the center-back’s services. From England, West Ham United are reportedly considering a move for the defender, while TSG Hoffenheim’s interest has become more concrete, although no formal bid has been confirmed.
Lokomotiv Moscow had also expressed interest in Torunarigha, but current geopolitical tensions surrounding Russia’s involvement in the war with Ukraine have rendered any potential deal unfeasible.
As reported by football journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Lokomotiv Moscow’s approach was stymied by these ongoing issues, effectively ending their pursuit of the defender.
KAA Gent remain prepared for Torunarigha’s departure before the summer transfer window closes, with Hoffenheim now emerging as the frontrunner to secure his signature.
Torunarigha has been a crucial figure in Gent’s defence over the past two years, contributing four goals and five assists during his time in Belgium.
He is familiar with the Bundesliga, having developed his career at Hertha Berlin, where he made 81 appearances before his move to Gent. Hoffenheim may secure his services at a reasonable price, with a valuation of €5 million, though Gent could demand up to €8 million.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Torunarigha represented Germany at youth level before committing to Nigeria at the senior level, earning one cap for the Super Eagles so far.
