Liverpool vs Brentford predictions
It has not been the best week for Liverpool. A 1-1 draw with Luton Town in the Premier League was followed by a 3-2 loss to Toulouse in the Europa League on Thursday.
Thankfully for Jurgen Klopp’s side, neither result was overly damaging. Despite coming unstuck in France, Liverpool remain top of Group E. A win in either of their two remaining games would extend their participation in continental competition beyond Christmas.
Meanwhile there were positives to take from the draw at Kenilworth Road. On the balance of play and chances created, Liverpool should have won the match. They almost lost it, but Luis Diaz popped up in second-half stoppage time to rescue a point.
At the same time, Liverpool cannot afford to drop too many more points against non-big six sides. That might sound like an overreaction given we are only in November, but it is the reality of a Premier League that has been dominated in recent years by a relentless Manchester City side.
Before wrapping up the title last term, Pep Guardiola’s team dropped only 11 points against teams other than Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Four of those were against high-flying Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
Liverpool are only three points off City in top spot as we head into the weekend, and they will hope to at least remain within touching distance of first place over the next few months.
Brentford have not won at Anfield since 1937, but they will arrive on Merseyside this weekend in excellent form. Liverpool cannot take anything for granted on Sunday.
📝 Liverpool vs Brentford betting tips
Brentford can be tough opponents but Liverpool should have enough to pick up all three points on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 8/5 (bet365)
Liverpool have made Anfield a fortress again. They have played eight games on home turf this season and have won all eight of them.
Bournemouth, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Leicester City, Union Saint-Gilloise, Everton, Toulouse and Nottingham Forest have all left the red half of the city with their tails between their legs.
Villa and Manchester City are the only other teams to have a 100 percent home record in the Premier League this term, although the former were beaten in front of their own fans in the EFL Cup.
Liverpool also have the Premier League’s best defensive record at home, with just two goals conceded so far.

Yet there is reason to believe that Brentford could breach their backline this weekend. For all that they have not conceded much at Anfield, Liverpool’s defensive unit is still not completely watertight.
That is as much to do with the midfield as the backline. For all his qualities, Alexis Mac Allister is not a natural holding player. But that is where he has been playing this season.
Brentford have scored eight goals in their last three Premier League games, so they certainly pack a punch in attack even without the suspended Ivan Toney.
⚽ Tip Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 8/5 with bet365 ⚽
Over 1.5 goals first half – 11/10 (bet365)
Liverpool will look to make a fast start on Sunday.
It is true that they were in action in midweek, whereas Brentford have had a full eight days to prepare for this clash, but Klopp did not choose a full-strength XI against Toulouse.
Only Manchester City and Newcastle have scored more first-half goals than the Reds, while Brentford have the fifth-best overall record in the opening 45 minutes of matches.
If we only take home matches into account, City are the only side in the division to have found the net more often in the first period than Liverpool.
Brentford have caused the Reds problems in the past, albeit more in west London than on Merseyside.
But the Bees have scored in six of their seven away games in 2023/24, so they are not afraid to commit bodies to attack at opposition stadiums.
⚽ Go for over 1.5 goals in the first half at 11/10 with bet365 ⚽
Mohamed Salah to score any time – 21/20 (bet365)
Mohamed Salah was one of the regular starters who was left out of the XI against Toulouse.
The Egypt international did enter the fray at half-time, but he was unable to help Liverpool recover from their 1-0 deficit at the interval.
Salah is enjoying an excellent season, though. He has eight goals to his name in the Premier League, a tally bettered only by – you guessed it – Erling Haaland.
Salah may be 31 years of age but he shows no signs of slowing down. A remarkably consistent performer, he has never scored fewer than 19 Premier League goals in a season for Liverpool – and he is on course to get several more than that this time around.
Salah is available at slightly better than evens to find the back of the net against Brentford, and that looks like excellent value given his and Liverpool’s record.
⚽ Pick Mohamed Salah as an anytime goalscorer at 21/20 with bet365 ⚽
