Klopp told ‘brilliant’ £100m star is perfect Liverpool replacement for Fabinho, with deal to leave ‘Big Six’ rivals furious
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been told why they should sign a £100million-rated Premier League midfielder to replace Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, although they will have to beat a fellow ‘Big Six’ club to him.
Liverpool have already replaced the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner by landing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively. However, they might need one or two more new midfielders to join this summer if Fabinho and Henderson depart.
Fabinho has already agreed personal terms with Al Ittihad ahead of a prospective move to the Saudi Pro League. Al Ittihad are currently in dialogue with Liverpool as they look to reach an agreement over his transfer fee.
Fabinho may end up playing against Henderson in the Middle East next term. The Liverpool captain is close to joining Steven Gerrard’s new club Al Ettifaq after they finalised a deal with Klopp’s side. Liverpool will receive £12million plus add-ons for Henderson.
The Reds are interested in Southampton’s Romeo Lavia as a new defensive midfielder, although they will have to fend off Arsenal and Chelsea for him.
Instead, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo could emerge as a priority option for Liverpool. Such a move would leave Chelsea hugely frustrated, as they have had two bids for Caicedo rejected by Brighton, the latest of which came in at £70m.
Brighton believe the 21-year-old has the potential to be just as good as Declan Rice and therefore want around £100m for him.
In a recent interview (via Liverpool Echo), former Liverpool player Didi Hamann discussed the next stage of Klopp’s midfield overhaul. “Liverpool need another midfielder if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both decide to leave for what they’re being offered in Saudi Arabia,” he said.
Liverpool urged to pursue ‘brilliant’ Moises Caicedo
“Moises Caicedo is a brilliant player, he fits the profile of a ‘ball-winner’, what Fabinho has been doing for Liverpool for years. If there is an opportunity to hijack the deal from Chelsea, then I think Liverpool should go for Caicedo.
“He would be another great signing for Liverpool’s midfield, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.”
Liverpool previously would have struggled to meet Brighton’s demands for Caicedo. Indeed, they have been looking at signing Lavia at around the £50m mark.
But the departures of Fabinho and Henderson should give Klopp a much-needed boost to his transfer budget. With Fabinho going for £40m and Al Ettifaq spending a further £12m on Henderson, Liverpool may soon have the funds necessary to rival Chelsea for Caicedo.
The Ecuadorian is only 21 years old. However, he has all the attributes needed to become a top Prem midfielder. And Klopp certainly has the knowhow to help Caicedo reach his full potential.
