Johnson joins Tottenham on deadline day in £47.5m deal
‘I didn’t think twice’ – Nunes on City move and Pep’s praise
Tottenham have completed the signing of forward Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest for a fee in the region of £47 million.
Johnson has put pen to deal that will run until 2029. It will be seen as a huge coup for Ange Postecoglou, with the Wales international identified as his No. 1 target this summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old was seen arriving at Forest’s training ground on Friday morning, but quickly headed down to London for a medical in the afternoon after a fee had been agreed between the two clubs.
He will now add to Postecoglou’s revitalised forward line following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, which includes James Maddison and Manor Solomon, who arrived from Leicester and Shakhtar Donetsk respectively.
The forward progressed through the ranks at the City Ground and leaves Forest after making 109 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and registering 12 assists.
He was part of the squad that won promotion back to the Premier League in 2022, ending a 23-year absence from the top flight with a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final.
Johnson finished as the club’s top goalscorer that season, netting 19 times which included goals in both legs of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United.
He signed a new four-year contract with the club in July 2022, scoring 10 times and registering three assists in 44 appearances as the club avoided relegation from the Premier League, finishing 16th.
Johnson has 19 caps for Wales and played in all three of their World Cup matches against USA, Iran and England at last year’s finals in Qatar.
The Welshman will not be registered in time to feature against Burnley on Saturday, but could make his debut after the international break for the visit of Sheffield United on September 16.
