Ex-Super Eagles captain backs Karim Adeyemi’s Borussia Dortmund to lift the UEFA Champions League
Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has backed Borussia Dortmund to defeat Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final, Soccernet.ng reports.
Mikel, who is no stranger to Champions League victory, saw his team defy the odds at the Allianz Arena in Munich in 2012, beating Bayern on their home turn to lift Chelsea’s first-ever UCL trophy.
The 2013 AFCON winner put in a tremendous performance for Roberto Di Mateo’s team before Didier Drogba scored the deciding penalty to win the game.
On the 1st of June, Real Madrid will lock horns against Borussia Dortmund at the Wembley Stadium in London, as both sides look to put beautiful colours on what has been an eventful season.
While Los Blancos are favourites, Mikel has backed Die Schwarzgelben to replicate Chelsea’s 2012 triumph by defeating Real Madrid next week.
“To be honest, I really hope that Borussia Dortmund will win the UCL final. They deserve it more than Real Madrid. When you see that players like Kroos, Nacho, Carvajal and Modric won 5 trophies of the UCL it is a bit unfair because these players are not even close to being the best in their positions. This shows that trophies can be misleading. I can name 10 players in the same positions that are better than these footballers,” the Olympic bronze medallist said in quotes revealed by Daily Post.
Real Madrid are going all out for their 15th UCL title with the hopes of giving Toni Kroos a befitting farewell, while Borussia Dortmund are closing on their second, hoping to give Marco Reus a great end to his stay at the club after twelve years.
