Ex-Liverpool star keen to return to club just months after leaving

Liverpool will be hoping to record their first win in five matches when they face Leeds United on Monday evening.

The Reds held Premier League leaders Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at Anfield last time out, but are without a win in four league games following their 7-0 win over Manchester United at the start of March.

Jurgen Klopp’s side now face a battle to qualify for European competition next term as they currently occupy eighth-place in the league table.

This summer looks likely to be one of significant change at Anfield, with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

The Reds will undoubtedly be on the hunt for reinforcements, but it now appears that one of their former stars is keen on a return.

According to Football Insider, Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane ‘misses Liverpool’ and is keen on a return to the Premier League.

The Senegal international left Anfield to join the German champions last summer, but his time in Bavaria hasn’t quite gone to plan so far.

Mane, 31, has scored 11 goals in 32 matches across all competitions so far, but things appear to have soured in recent days.

Mane is said to be ready to leave Bayern just months after joining the club

Following Bayern’s 3-0 Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday, it was widely reported that Mane had a physical altercation with teammate Leroy Sane in the dressing room at The Etihad.

Mane was alleged to have punched his German teammate, and it was announced on Thursday that the forward wouldn’t be a part of the Bayern squad for their Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim this weekend.

Despite Mane’s desire to return to the Premier League, the report claims that Liverpool currently have no plans to re-sign the forward.

Mane spent six years with Liverpool having joined from Southampton in 2016.

During his time on Merseyside, Mane scored 120 goals and registered 48 assists in 269 matches across all competitions.

He also lifted six trophies during his time with Liverpool, including the Champions League and Premier League.
