And on his return to continental action, the striker was not shy to set another record as City trailed Leipzig.

Haaland’s effort against the German side was his 40th Champions League goal during his career so far in 35th competition appearance.

He is now the quickest player to hit such a tally as well as the youngest, doing so aged 23 years and 130 days.

It was also Haaland’s 12th goal in eight appearances against Leipzig, the most goals he has scored against a single side.
