El Clasico headlines This Weekend’s Soccer on TV
The jostling for La Liga supremacy continues this weekend with rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona squaring off for the first time this season.
Third-place Barcelona welcomes first-place Real Madrid to the Camp Nou on Saturday, seeking to leapfrog its rivals with a positive result. Xavi’s men are riding a 13-match unbeaten streak to start the new campaign, but draws against Getafe, Mallorca, and Granada have cost them to fall into third place.
Real Madrid has won five of its last six matches across all competitions following a 3-1 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid. A 2-1 UEFA Champions League win over Braga on Tuesday should have Carlo Ancelotti’s men full of confidence heading into the first of two El Clasico’s in La Liga play.
Jude Bellingham leads the league with eight goals for his new club while Robert Lewandowski leads Barcelona with five tallies.
Sunday’s Manchester Derby at Old Trafford will also be on the radar for many European fans.
Second-place Manchester City makes the trip to eighth-place Manchester United, seeking a statement victory against their rivals. The Citizens defeated Swiss side Young Boys 3-1 in UCL play on Wednesday while Manchester United edged Danish club FC København 1-0 in its match on Tuesday.
Man City won two of their three meetings with Man United across all competitions last season.
Serie A’s weekend schedule features two highly-anticipated matches with top-seven clubs involved. Second-place AC Milan travels to reigning champions Napoli while seventh-place AS Roma visits league-leaders Inter Milan.
The MLS Cup Playoffs push forward this weekend with the start of several Best-of-3 Series. Supporters’ Shield winners FC Cincinnati welcomes the New York Red Bulls to town on Sunday in the fourth overall matchup this season.
FC Cincy won two of the three previous meetings against the Red Bulls in 2023.
