The title race looks set to be one of the best in recent years with Manchester City down in fourth while Aston Villa are well amongst it.

However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp doesn’t seem too bothered by looking so far ahead into the season.

He said: “I couldn’t be less interested in that, but it looks like it [will be a good title race].

“It’s obviously a bit unusual that City is not top of the table with like 10 points between first and second, and these kind of things. That’s how it is.

“Arsenal are doing extremely well, we are doing not too bad. Aston Villa is super-strong, a pretty impressive performance in the last game, to be honest, not only but especially.

“United, I’m not following it really but whatever you hear, nobody is 100 per cent happy, but they are around. Newcastle is there. Tottenham, they are there. And all of that.

“For sure I forgot somebody, not on purpose just because of the amount of teams. What can I say? It’s like always: we only can beat anybody in the games we play and with consistency over a season, and so far that looks alright.

“But even we could have, or maybe should have, a few points more. But we don’t, we are where we are and that’s OK, but we are not celebrating and we are not struggling with getting our arms down after games. Not at all.

“We just prepare for the next game and try to be ready again and that’s difficult enough.”

  • Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: Match facts

    • Liverpool have lost just one of their last 26 Premier League matches (W17 D8), a 2-1 defeat to Spurs in September. Since they lost to Man City in April, the Reds have won more points than any other side in the competition (59).
    • Since the start of October, no side have won fewer Premier League games than Crystal Palace (W1 D2 L5), while only Sheffield United (6) have scored fewer goals than the Eagles (7).

It’s an important game for Crystal Palace too, but their form is the total opposite to their opponents.

The Eagles are winless in four and manager Roy Hodgson is coming under plenty of pressure, with fans showing frustrations at results.

Speaking about how his side can turn around their form, Hodgson said: “We’re all in this together.

“It’s not just the club themselves who realise that, unfortunately, with these injuries, we have found ourselves a bit light in terms of the squad, light in terms of the options that are available.

“So it’s not just me saying that, this is a club matter. If I were to go out and complain about it, I’m preaching to the converted.

“But we’ll try and do something about it and in the meantime, what we’ll do is we’ll group together and we’ll make certain, as we’ve done so often in the past, that we find a way to get out and give good performances and get some points along the way, even if the odds are stacked against us.”

Klopp will be trying to put his thoughts on the 12:30 kick-off to the back of his mind this afternoon.

That’s because Liverpool can move to the top of the Premier League with a win at Selhurst Park.

And the Reds boss has been speaking about having the chance to gain an advantage before his title rivals play later this weekend.

He said: “I don’t feel that kind of pressure from other teams, we want to win our game, and Arsenal doesn’t need extra pressure, they play Aston Villa, so that’s enough [of] a job to do. There’s nothing.

“We have a job to do and that’s against Crystal Palace. Let’s be 100 per cent focused on that, what we are and what we will be.

“Then Sunday, I have no clue who plays on Sunday but then I will lie at home on the sofa in the afternoon and watch the other football games and will see what they do – more out of interest if we play them still and that’s it.

“But nobody became champion because he was top of the table on Saturday at 2.15pm, or whatever, on matchday 16.

“That doesn’t really help. But we need the points and we want to go for them, and that’s what we prepare for in this short space of time.”

Liverpool are playing in the early kick-off once again today, much to the frustration of manager Jurgen Klopp…

Klopp reacted badly to an Amazon presenter’s jokes about playing in the 12:30pm Saturday slot following his side’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

The Reds boss is the most vocal critic of the lunchtime kick-off and his record in them shows why he hates them.

Since the start of last season, Liverpool have won just one of their seven Premier League away games kicking off at 12:30pm on a Saturday.

Klopp’s men have drawn three and lost three, with their sole victory coming from behind to beat Wolves 3-1 in September.

Home and away, of kick-off times the Reds have played 10+ games under Klopp in the league, their lowest points-per-game average is at 12:30pm (1.76 – P38 W18 D13 L7).

Tyrick Mitchell added to the home side’s injury woes after coming off after just 29 minutes against Bournemouth.

The Eagles are already without Cheick Doucoure, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Rob Holding, Dean Henderson and talisman Eberechi Eze.

Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of Alexis Mac Allister, with the Argentine sustaining a knee issue at Brammal Lane.

Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are closing on comebacks but this game will come too soon while the Reds have several serious injuries.

Joel Matip has suffered an ACL tear, while long-term absentees Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara and Andrew Robertson all remain sidelined.
