Chelsea interested in Real Madrid star
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca will hope to see his side improve when they return to action at the start of next month.
The Blues enjoyed a relatively impressive start to the campaign and found themselves second in the Premier League table at Christmas.
A run of just four wins from 13 league games since Boxing Day, however, has seen the West London side fall to fourth in the top flight standings.
Chelsea’s owners have spent heavily since taking charge of the club in 2022, and it appears that they could be set to do so once again during the upcoming summer transfer window.
It has now emerged that the West London side are interested in one of the world’s biggest stars.
According to TBR Football, Chelsea are huge admirers of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr and would be interested in signing him if a deal proved possible.
Vinicius, 24, joined Real Madrid from Brazilian side Flamengo in 2018 and, after a slow start to life in the Spanish capital, he has established himself as one of the world’s best players in recent seasons.
In total the Brazil international has played 304 times for the Spanish giants across all competitions, scoring 103 goals and providing 73 assists.
This season he has netted 18 times in 39 games, and he will hope to add to his haul of 14 trophies in Europe which already includes two Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles.
Vinicius is under contract with Real until the summer of 2027, but the report claims that Chelsea believe the player himself is open to the prospect of a move to London as and when he leaves his current side.
The report also suggests that, while a deal for Vinicius would prove extremely costly and could pose Chelsea problems in relation to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, the Premier League side could likely make a deal work if they wished to do so.
