Chelsea and Spurs enquire about Bundesliga centre-back

Chelsea return to action when they face relegation-threatened Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues have struggled in the Premier League this season and currently sit 11th in the top flight table, 17 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to see his side improve and finish the season strongly, with a place in the Europa Conference League still achievable and an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City coming up next month.

In the meantime, the Blues have reportedly asked about the availability of a Bundesliga defender.

As per German outlet BILD via 90min, both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

Tah is enjoying a fine season at Bayer Leverkusen

The 28-year-old centre-back has been in fine form for Xabi Alonso’s side so far this season, helping them to sit top of the Bundesliga with a ten point lead over reigning champions Bayern Munich with just eight matches remaining.

Remarkably, Leverkusen remain unbeaten across all competitions so far this term, having reached the semi-final of the DFB Pokal and the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Tah joined Leverkusen from fellow German side Hamburg back in the summer of 2015, and he has since made a total of 338 appearances for his current side across all competitions.

The report claims that the two Premier League sides have both shown an interest in the central defender, and the German side could be tempted into selling the Germany international this summer.

Tah’s current contract with Leverkusen is set to run until the end of next season, meaning he could sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January and then leave as a free agent upon the expiry of his deal.

Chelsea and Spurs both have intentions of adding to their defensive ranks during the upcoming summer transfer window.
