Bournemouth looking to break winless record in Manchester City clash

Bournemouth will attempt to claim their first-ever competitive win against Manchester City when they play host to the Premier League champions on Saturday.

Bournemouth will attempt to end their winless head-to-head record against Manchester City when the two sides face off in Saturday’s Premier League contest.

Andoni Iraola‘s side are currently experiencing a poor run of form, having failed to win any of their last six league matches.

As a result, the 13th-placed side are still searching for their first top-flight win of 2024, with their most recent Premier League victory taking place against Fulham on Boxing Day.

Matters will not get any easier for the South Coast club, as they prepare to welcome the reigning European champions to the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries will be hoping to pull off a surprise result and claim their first-ever competitive victory against Man City.

Since facing Man City for the first time in the fourth tier in 1987, Bournemouth have gone on to draw two and lose 18 of their 20 meetings with the Citizens.

In fact, the Cherries have lost all of their 13 head-to-head matches in the Premier League, including a heavy defeat in the most recent meeting in November.

On that occasion, Pep Guardiola‘s side cruised to a commanding 6-1 win at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a Bernardo Silva brace as well as goals from Jeremy Doku, Manuel Akanji, Phil Foden and Nathan Ake.

Bournemouth may be fearing another heavy defeat on Saturday, having conceded at least four goals in each of their last three games against the Citizens.

They can at least draw some comfort from the fact they have troubled the scorers in five of their previous six head-to-head meetings.

They have also been in fine scoring form during the current campaign, finding the net in 15 of their last six Premier League outings.

Dominic Solanke will be crucial to Bournemouth’s efforts at the weekend, with the 26-year-old sitting behind Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah in the Premier League scoring charts.

The striker found the net in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United to take his tally to 14 league goals for the season.

Iraola has revealed that midfielder Romain Faivre is available for selection after missing the trip to Newcastle due to illness.
