Boost for Tottenham with key midfielder close to return

Tottenham Hotspur sit top of the Premier League table going into the international break after a superb start to the new season.

Ange Postecoglou has enjoyed a fine start to his tenure in North London, with his side winning six of their eight league games and remaining unbeaten so far.

Last time out, Spurs defeated Luton Town 1-0 despite having midfielder Yves Bissouma sent off in first-half added time.

The Mali international was dismissed after picking up two yellow cards – the second of which was for diving – and he will now be suspended when domestic football returns after the international break.

Bissouma will be a huge miss for Postecoglou, but the Australian could soon be handed a boost with a long term absentee said to be close to a return to action.

As reported by Football Insider, midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is nearing a return to full fitness.

Bentancur hasn’t played since February due to a serious knee injury

The Uruguayan hasn’t featured for Spurs since February after rupturing his cruciate ligament against Leicester City, but the report claims that he could be back in action by the middle of November.

Bentancur, 26, joined Spurs from Italian side Juventus back in January last year and was a regular for the club before suffering the serious knee injury against the Foxes.

In total the Uruguay international has made 44 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing the same number of assists.

The midfielder had scored against Leicester before suffering the ACL rupture, but he is now said to be in the final stages of his recovery after more than seven months on the sidelines.

His return will provide Postecoglou with a huge boost ahead of a busy festive period, however the former Juventus man will be competing with the likes of Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for a place in the Australian’s side.
