Bayer Leverkusen chief’s new statements could signal an exit for Victor Boniface
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has revealed that the club could sell one of their star players in the summer to fund the purchase of new players, Soccernet.ng reports.
Bayer Leverkusen have had their best-ever campaign with Xabi Alonso as coach. This season, the club is the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top five league.
On Sunday, they completed their first Bundesliga title victory after demolishing Werder Bremen 5-0 at Bay Arena. In the Europa League, they take a 2-0 lead into their clash against West Ham in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie on Thursday. Also, they are in the final of the German Cup, where they play Kaiserslautern in late May.
The club has achieved their successes this season with Alonso in charge in what is his first full season. The Spanish tactician has gotten the team to tick, mixing new talents with the old players at the club. Most of the players have shone, and just like Alonso who has been linked to Liverpool and Bayern Munich, they have been linked with exits.
Stars like Jeremie Frimpong, Alejandro Grimaldo, and Florian Wirtz have been linked to Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona. Meanwhile, Nigeria star Victor Boniface has also been linked with a transfer to the Premier League, albeit nothing is concrete yet.
However, as the season drifts to an end, the transfer rumors surrounding Bayer Leverkusen players will increase. Also, the club is not rich, as the highest they have spent on a single signing is €32 million, which they paid Hoffenheim for Kerem Demirbay in 2019.
Despite winning the league this season, Die Werkself will likely continue with their low spending. In the summer, they would have to revamp the team, and the CEO of the club has revealed that they would have to make sales to fund their new signings. With this statement, if a mouthwatering offer arrives for the Nigerian, the club would likely budge.

Bayer Leverkusen value Boniface at around €50 million, but if Die Werkself get up to €70 million, they would likely let him go.
As it stands, the most valuable player at Bayer Leverkusen is Florian Wirtz, who is valued at €110 million, per Transfermarkt.
