Arsenal vs Chelsea lineups, starting 11 and latest team news for Premier League clash

Mikel Arteta has admitted his Arsenal side have no control over the Premier League title race ahead of hosting Chelsea on May 2.

Defending champions Manchester City have overtaken the Gunners at the top of the table, for the first time since August, with the advantage now firmly with Pep Guardiola.

Arteta needs City to drop points in their final round of games, to stand a chance of reviving the title race, and dent City’s push for a trophy treble this season.

Visitors Chelsea head across London on the back of five successive losses since Frank Lampard’s return to Stamford Bridge.

Below are the projected lineups for both teams based on the latest news leading up to the match.

Arsenal vs Chelsea lineups

Injuries to key players have impacted Arteta’s Arsenal in the title race with French international William Saliba still missing for the hosts.

Lampard’s injury list is lengthier than Arteta’s, with England star Reece James ruled out until next season, and Kalidou Koulibaly, Mason Mount, Reece James and Marc Cucurella absent for this game.

Below are the confirmed starting lineups for both teams ahead of this Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on May 2.

Arsenal starting 11

(4-3-3): Ramsdale (GK) — White, Kiwior, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Jorginho, Xhaka — Saka, Jesus, Trossard

  • Injured: Saliba, Tomiyasu, Elneny
  • Suspended: None

Saliba’s continued absence means a first Premier League start for Jakub Kiwior in central defence, with Leandro Trossard in for Gabriel Martinelli.

Italian international Jorginho starts against his old team, with Thomas Partey dropping down to the bench.

Chelsea starting 11

(4-3-3): Kepa (GK) — Azpilicueta, Fofana, Silva, Chilwell — Kante, Fernandez, Kovacic — Madueke, Aubameyang, Sterling

  • Injured: Broja, Koulibaly, James, Cucurella, Mount, Bettinelli
  • Suspended: None

Lampard keeps faith with the majority of the starting side, which lost 2-0 to Brentford last time out, with Noni Madueke and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang coming in, as part of a reshuffled attack.

Chelsea’s fate looks to already be sealed ahead of the run-in with Lampard’s side battling to finish inside the top half of the table.

Arsenal’s title quest looks to be over, but Arteta will keep pushing, as City aim to match Manchester United’s 1999 treble in 2023.
