Chelsea planning huge offer for Premier League striker
Chelsea face a tough test of their European credentials when they travel to face reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
The Blues have endured a tough season so far and currently sit tenth in the top flight table, but recent victories over Aston Villa in the FA Cup and Crystal Palace in the league will give the Argentine reason to believe his side can qualify for Europe next term.
City, though, have won nine games in a row across all competitions and will be firm favourites for the game at The Etihad.
Off the pitch, Chelsea are reportedly plotting a huge move for a Premier League striker.
As per The Sun, the Blues are preparing a massive bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
The Bees striker has recently returned from a lengthy ban imposed for breaching FA betting rules, and the Englishman has made an instant impact on his return.
Toney, 27, netted a free-kick on his return against Nottingham Forest and has also since scored against both Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves.
The striker looks almost certain to depart the Bees during this summer’s transfer window, with several clubs having been linked with a move for the one-time England international.
It is claimed that the forward is the Blues’ ‘number one target’ for the upcoming transfer window, although Brentford are holding out for a fee in excess of £80 million to let the player leave.
Toney joined Brentford from Football League side Peterborough United back in 2020 and has since netted 71 times in 128 games for the club.
The Englishman was instrumental in securing the Bees’ promotion to the Premier League, and has scored 35 times since moving up to the top flight.
Despite their interest, Chelsea would need to offload some players before signing Toney, the report claims.
