Arsenal look to sell trio in January to raise funds

Arsenal will be hoping to end their poor run of form when they face Premier League title rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Having finished second in the top flight last season, Mikel Arteta’s side are hoping to go one better this time around but a run of three defeats and a draw in their past five games has seen the Gunners lose ground in the title race.

The visit of Liverpool to The Emirates presents Arsenal with an opportunity to return to winning ways, though, and Arteta will be desperate to see his side show significant improvement.

In the meantime, the North London club are reportedly hoping to sell three fringe players this month.

As reported by Football London, the Gunners are willing to allow Mohamed Elneny, Cedric Soares, and Nuno Tavares to leave the club during the current transfer window in order to raise funds for new signings.

All three players have struggled for game time so far this term – making a combined total of just nine appearances across all competitions – with Tavares currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Soares is one of three players that could leave Arsenal this month

Soares, 32, joined Arsenal from Southampton back in 2020 and has since played more than 60 times for the club.

Having spent time on loan at Fulham last season, the right-back has failed to move ahead of the likes of Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu in the pecking order at The Emirates.

Tavares, meanwhile, joined Arsenal from Benfica in 2021 and has made 28 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He was sent out on loan to Forest at the start of the season, but has only played three times since and Arsenal are therefore considering selling him this month as he has attracted interest from elsewhere.

Midfielder Elneny has had the most successful Arsenal career of all three players, making more than 150 appearances and winning the FA Cup during his time in London.

The Egyptian has fallen out of favour over the past few seasons, though, and has featured just four times so far this term.
