Transfer: Aston Villa eyeing winter move for Super Eagles forward

Nigeria 3-2 Mozambique: Super Eagles goalkeeping crisis continues and other takeaways from the win

Aston Villa have been rejuvenated under former Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain coach, Unai Emery, and Ollie Watkins has been in fine form.

English Premier League side, Aston Villa are looking to make a winter move to tempt Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City, Soccernet.ng reports.

In recent months, Iheanacho has been featuring as a fringe player for the Foxes, falling down the pecking order behind Zambian Patson Daka who is in great form and club legend, Jamie Vardy.

His last appearance for the club came in their 2-1 win over West Brom almost three weeks ago. Before then, he last started a game in Leicester’s win over Watford on the 25th of November.

Iheanacho’s current contract expires in the summer of 2024, meaning the 27-year-old is eligible to enter pre-contract talks with other clubs from the turn of the year.

According to a report published by Football League World, Aston Villa are eyeing a move for the former Manchester City striker to provide competition for Ollie Watkins up front.

The Englishman has scored nine times and set up a goal six times in seventeen outings for the West Midlands side, and with interest from bigger sides beckoning, Unai Emery’s side have turned their attention to Iheanacho.

Should a move for the Nigerian fail to materialize, Villa are also considering former Chelsea striker, Timo Werner as an alternative. The German striker has fallen out of favour at the Red Bull Arena with Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko remaining Marco Rose’s preferred choice.

A move to Villa would interest Iheanacho, as they’re currently in the English top-flight and are in a pole position to finish within European spots this season.
