Napoli – Real Madrid headlines This Week’s Soccer on TV
The UEFA Champions League group stage rolls on this week with Real Madrid visiting Napoli in the headlining clash of Matchday 2.
Los Blancos are top of the La Liga standings with 21 points earned through eight matches, however Carlo Ancelotti’s squad will be focused on knocking off the defending Serie A winners. Jude Bellingham has been key for Real Madrid so far this season, scoring seven goals across all competitions.
Napoli is unbeaten in five-straight matches across all competitions, which included a 2-1 Matchday 1 victory over Portuguese outfit Braga. Victor Osimhen leads the team with five goals in Serie A play and remains one of the highly-touted forwards in European Football.
The UCL Group of Death also rolls on with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund clashing with Serie A’s AC Milan.
The Black and Yellow have won back-to-back matches since suffering a 2-0 Matchday 1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in September. Marco Reus has found the back of the net in each of his last two appearances and remains a veteran leader in the squad.
Christian Pulisic netted his third Serie A goal of the season this past weekend as AC Milan defeated Lazio 2-0. Pulisic will make the trip back to Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday, the venue where he began his European career.
St. James Park will host its first UCL match in a long while as Newcastle United plays host to PSG. The Magpies are unbeaten in five-straight matches, registering five-straight clean sheets during that span.
Strikers Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both have four league goals under their belts.
PSG is unbeaten in three-consecutive matches, but will be seeking a bounce-back performance after a goal-less Ligue 1 draw with Clermont Foot. Kylian Mbappe has recorded eight goals in all competitions and will led the PSG attack on Tyneside.
Manchester City resumes UCL play on Wednesday, seeking a bounce-back result after back-to-back losses. The Citizens were eliminated from the EFL Cup last week by Newcastle United before also falling 2-1 in Premier League play to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pep Guardiola’s squad visits RB Leipzig, a team they trounced 8-1 on aggregate in last season’s Round of 16.
RB Leipzig are unbeaten in seven-straight matches across all competitions since suffering their only defeat of the campaign. A 2-2 Bundesliga draw with Bayern Munich should have confidence high in Marco Rose’s squad.
Copa Libertadores semifinal action comes to a close on Thursday when Palmeiras hosts Boca Juniors in second leg play. The teams are tied 0-0 on aggregate and are both coming off league defeats this past weekend.
