Liverpool vs West Ham live score, updates, highlights, lineups, and result as Bowen levels it up
ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL — Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to the new Premier League season, winning four and drawing one of their opening five fixtures.
However, they come into this game contending with the dreaded Thursday-Sunday schedule that has proved tricky to navigate for so many teams participating in the Europa League in recent years.
Fortunately, the effects of that quick turnaround could well be mitigated by the fact that the Reds’ opponents, West Ham, are themselves in Europe’s second tier competition this season.
But they arrive at Anfield having picked up an impressive 10 points from their opening five games and full of confidence after another win on Thursday.
A first test of how Liverpool cope with that Thursday-Sunday schedule this season. Although they’re probably helped in this instance by the fact that West Ham are contending with the same issue. @sn_footballclub pic.twitter.com/GLpRKqDSFa

West Ham are continuing to look threatening so fresh legs are definitely needed here.

75th min: A double change for West Ham, with Fornals and Kudus replacing Soucek and Antonio.
70th min: Liverpool have been much improved since taking the lead and they play it through West Ham with ease before Salah takes a shot that is easily held by Areola.
60th min: LIVERPOOL LEAD AGAIN THROUGH NUNEZ!
He’s missed some decent opportunities in this game but there’s no mistake this time from Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguayan latches onto a sumptuous dink in behind from Mac Allister and pokes it home on the volley. Anfield erupts.
55th min: And now West Ham have a massive chance of their own! Ward-Prowse’s free-kick is met in the centre of the box by Bowen, but he can only head it straight at Alisson.
53rd min: Huge chance for Liverpool! Salah slips a cute ball in behind for Nunez but his powerful first-time attempt flies wide when he should have done so much better,

HALFTIME: ALL SQUARE AT THE BREAK AT ANFIELD.
45th min: Jones has the ball in the back of the net after volleying home a delicious Szoboszlai dink in behind but the flag is up straight away.
VAR has a look but that’s a straightforward one.
42nd min: WEST HAM LEVEL IT UP THROUGH BOWEN!
Bowen lays one off to Antonio and then bursts into the box to meet a Coufal cross with a diving header that goes in off the post.
It’s a brilliant finish from the Englishman and a scoreline that the visitors deserve.

West Ham continuing to impress in this game – they are by no means out of it.
39th min: Szoboszlai deceives the West Ham defence with an outside-of-the-boot pass to Diaz, who puts it on a plate for Salah just inside the box.
However, the Egyptian passes his finish wide of the far post when he had time to perhaps move closer before shooting.
36th min: Edson Alvarez goes into the book for a cynical block on Diaz near the edge of the West Ham penalty area.
27th min: Mac Allister drags one wide from the edge of the box after Liverpool play through West Ham on the counter.
The visitors still offering plenty of threat, though, with James Ward-Prowse testing the Reds from corners and free-kicks on a regular basis.
21st min: Van Dijk meets a Robertson corner delivery from the left on the volley but can only direct it over the bar.
16th min: SALAH SCORES FROM THE SPOT! 1-0 LIVERPOOL!
No mistake from the man they call the Egyptian King, who smashes the spot-kick down the middle.

15th min: PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!!!
West Ham have been all over Liverpool since this game kicked off but are punished for their first real mistake.
It comes from Aguerd, who trips up Salah after a Diaz attempt to pick out Nunez had fallen rather fortuitously for the Egyptian.
8th min: West Ham should be in front!
Soucek picks out a brilliant ball to the back post where Antonio is lurking, but he can’t get his header on target and the chance goes to waste. That’s a huge opportunity.
6th min: Great stop from Alisson! Liverpool thnk they should have a free-kick for a foul on Szoboszlai on the left but West Ham play on as Paqueta crosses for Soucek to head goalward, and only a fine save denies him.
1st min: West Ham go long to Antonio with their first play of the game – that’s a statement of intent.
KICKOFF! WEST HAM GET THE GAME UNDER WAY.
5 mins to kickoff: The players emerge at a not-quite-full Anfield. The hosts are still to complete work on their new, expanded Anfield Road stand, which it is hoped will be ready by next month.
30 mins to kickoff: The players are out for their warm-ups at what is a very windy Anfield. Jurgen Klopp once described wind as “the enemy of football” and so he’ll be hoping the conditions don’t knock his team too badly off their stride today.
1 hr to kickoff: The team news is in! Check out how both teams line-up for this one above.
1.5 hrs to kickoff: Jurgen Klopp has used his programme notes to urge his players to learn lessons from a poor first-half showing at Wolves last time out. He writes: “There was so much to like but at the same time we cannot and will not ignore the first half. That is not allowed. We will take the lessons of the bad and the good and use them because this is the only way.”
