Sancho, Van de Beek futures uncertain with Saudi and Turkey windows open
Van de Beek may quit Man Utd for Turkey
Donny van de Beek is looking at a move to Turkey if he wants to revive his career.
“Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek was offered multiple exit routes out of his Old Trafford nightmare this summer but bizarrely opted to stay put,” the Mirror reports.
“Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient were the team that came forward with the most concrete interest, but the Netherlands international was not interested in their proposal and sat around on deadline day waiting for alternative options. The Red Devils had actually accepted the French outfit’s proposal, but it was Van de Beek who dug his heels in and rejected the switch.
“As a result, Lorient were forced to explore other options. They weren’t the only side who floated the idea of landing the Dutchman’s signature, Van de Beek’s former side Ajax were thought to be keen on bringing the 26-year-old back to the Amsterdam Arena, but only on loan which wasn’t a tempting enough proposition in the eyes of the midfielder.
“Both Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are keeping tabs on Van de Beek’s situation and could look to try and land his signature in the coming days.”
Sancho’s options to leave
The Sun notes that Jadon Sancho still has time to organise a move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey, if he is quick, after a public falling out with Erik ten Hag.
“However, if he wants to move soon, then he will have to be quick, with only a few transfer windows remaining open.
“The Saudi Pro League window shuts tomorrow – September 7 – and a move there could see him play against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, N’Golo Kante and Jordan Henderson.
“Or Sancho could move to Turkey with the window there shutting on September 15.
“However, United may struggle to sanction a deal as they would have to wait until January to sign a replacement.”
Schmeichel had Chelsea interest
Kasper Schmeichel eschewed a return to Premier League football, with the Mail revealing he had three options he turned down over the summer.
“Former Leicester City captain Kasper Schmeichel has completed a one-year-deal with Belgian Pro League side Anderlecht,” the paper explained.
“The 36-year-old was released on a free transfer by Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on transfer deadline day.
“He was initially linked with a move to reunite with former Leicester manager Brendan Rogers at Celtic, who were in the market for a replacement for the struggling Joe Hart.
“Schmeichel had interest from Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brentford during the last weeks of the transfer window but reportedly wanted to be number one or challenging at a big club.”
Griezmann open to MLS switch
The Daily Express believes that Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is looking to head off to the MLS to join up with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi.
The paper explains: “Antoine Griezmann could be set for a reunion with Lionel Messi in the United States after receiving numerous offers to play in MLS. Atletico Madrid are understood to be willing to let the forward leave the La Liga club at the end of the season and he has already received offers from teams.
“Despite his current contract expiring in 2026, the Frenchman appears to be on his way to MLS as the league’s latest high profile signing. The move would follow in the footsteps of his fellow former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba – who signed for Inter Miami earlier in the year.
“Griezmann is wanting to seek a move to a ‘minor league and with less pressure on the field of play.’
“Griezmann has been vocal about his love for American culture in the past and his ambitions to play in MLS. The move would come as little surprise and the Frenchman could be swayed by the idea of linking up with his former La Blaugrana teammates.”
