Manchester City considering swoop for Premier League and England star
Manchester City will be without manager Pep Guardiola when they travel to face Sheffield United on Sunday.
The Spaniard has undergone surgery on his back and will be absent for City’s next two matches, it was announced on Tuesday.
Guardiola will be hoping that his side can continue their strong start to the season, having beaten both Burnley and Newcastle United in their opening two games.
In the meantime, it appears that the reigning Premier League champions are considering a shock move for a Premier League star.
As per The Mail, City are weighing up a swoop for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
The report claims that the Manchester outfit are hoping to sign an attacking midfielder and, after their pursuit of West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta collapsed, they could now look to Eze.
The Eagles would reportedly demand a staggering £70 million for the 25-year-old, who made his senior debut for England back in June.
Eze joined Palace from Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers back in 2020 and has since made 95 appearances for his current club, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists.
The midfielder has played the full 90 minutes during each of Palace’s matches so far this season, but it yet to register a goal involvement.
It is also claimed that City have been monitoring Eze for around six months, with the club’s scouts having been impressed when watching the Englishman.
His current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2025, which could put Palace under some pressure to sell the player incase he refuses to sign an extension.
Wolves’ Matheus Nunes could be another target for City as they look to bolster their options, with Guardiola having praised the player during his time at former club Sporting Lisbon, before he moved to the Premier League last summer.
