Tottenham make huge decision in hunt for new manager

Tottenham Hotspur face a season without European competition next year after finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Spurs beat Leeds 3-1 at Elland Road in the last game of the term, relegating the Whites, but the result wasn’t enough to move the Lilywhites above Aston Villa.

The north London outfit have had three different managers this season, with Christian Stellini having replaced Antonio Conte and then himself been replaced by Ryan Mason.

The 31-year-old was unable to secure European football for the Lilywhites, though, which has caused chairman Daniel Levy to look at other candidates to become the permanent manager.

Spurs will be eager to find a manager as soon as possible, in order to give the new arrival the longest possible amount of time to prepare for next term.

Now, it appears that the club may have made a huge decision as they continue their hunt for a new manager.

According to Sky Sports, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the leading candidate to take the hot seat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The report claims that Postecoglou is the preferred manager on their long list of candidates.

Levy is reportedly impressed with the 57-year-old’s achievements with the Hoops, and Chief Football Officer Scott Munn is said to be a long-term admirer of the Australian after working in Asia and Australia, which Munn covered for the City Group.

Postecoglou has won a Japanese league title, four Australian league titles, and two Scottish Championship titles in his career.

The 57-year-old is an attractive candidate for Spurs due to the attacking style of play that he adopts, something that the London side have been missing since Mauricio Pochettino left.

However, Postecoglou’s emergence as the leading contender for the job will surprise many people as it had previously been reported that Spurs would look for a young manager to oversee a long-term project.

Postecoglou is reported to be open to the idea of taking on the job in north London after Celtic’s Scottish Cup final meeting with Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday.
