Arsenal among three Premier League sides scouting La Liga full-back

Arsenal could find themselves knocked off the top of the Premier League table by the time they play Chelsea on Tuesday, if Manchester City beat Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side have topped the table for the majority of the season so far, but their 4-1 defeat against the reigning champions on Wednesday evening means that City can leapfrog them when they play Fulham in one of their games in hand.

Regardless of whether or not The Gunners are successful in lifting the title, Arteta will undoubtedly be pleased with his side’s performances this season, especially considering that they failed to qualify for the Champions League following an end of season capitulation last term.

Now, it appears that Arsenal have been looking ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to 90min,  The Gunners are one of three Premier League sides who watched Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda in action on Thursday.

The report claims that the trio of top flight sides were in attendance to scout the defender during Valladolid’s defeat to struggling Valencia.

Fresneda has impressed for Valladolid this season

Fresneda, 18, is enjoying a fine breakthrough season for the Spanish side, having made 20 appearances across all competitions.

The teenager was linked with a move to The Emirates in January, but it never materialised.

Arteta is said to have spoken to Fresneda personally during the January transfer window, discussing a potential move to the capital.

This season, Arteta has primarily used Ben White, who is naturally a centre-back, as a makeshift right-back ahead of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The former Leeds United loanee has impressed in his new role, but it appears that Arteta is keen to add a more natural right-back to his squad ahead of next term.

At present, Fresneda is contracted to Valladolid until the summer of 2025, although it appears increasingly likely that he will depart the club prior to that date.
