Arsenal to lose out on top Premier League star due to wage demands – 101 Great Goals
The future of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has been cast into doubt over the last several months.
This comes with the Belgian out of contract in 2023 and seemingly not eager to put pen to paper on a fresh deal.
Reports earlier this year claimed that Arsenal had identified the 25-year-old as one of their top targets, with Tielemans’ lack of a new deal sparking interest from several clubs, including Arsenal.
Arteta was also said to be eyeing a left-footed midfielder who can operate as an eight on the left of a three, which Tielemans can.
However, the Belgian did not move during the 2022 summer transfer window despite his future clearly impacting his ability to play for Leicester.
Brendan Rodgers dropped Tielemans early in the campaign, citing off-the-field distractions as a reason why.
So, a free transfer looks to be on the cards for the FA Cup winner in the summer but despite all the links to Arsenal, we may not see Tielemans at the Emirates next season.
According to TeamTalk, the midfielder is making excessive wage demands, which could scupper the north London club’s interest in him.
Newcastle and Liverpool are also cited as interested parties, but Liverpool will likely turn their nose up at any excessive wage demands on the part of the player.
