Klopp could land a huge Ox upgrade in Liverpool move for £80k-p/w “full package”

3 minute read

Liverpool have not had the best first half of their Premier League season and Jurgen Klopp will surely be hoping to refresh his successful squad in 2023 since things have turned stale at Anfield.

The Reds are currently ninth in the top-flight table with just 28 points collected from a possible 54 after 18 outings – something that must drastically improve if they are to have any hope of securing a Champions League qualifying spot inside the top four.

Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes have both had moves mooted to Merseyside in the summer, however, with so many players either coming to the end of their contracts or well into their 30s at this point, it would be highly advantageous to spark a full midfield rebuild.

One player who has been linked with the six-time Champions League winners this week is Chelsea star Mason Mount, a player who can not only be part of the youth revolution desperately needed in the heart of the team but also comes with bags of Premier League experience.

The Guardian reported on Friday that Liverpool were monitoring the England international’s situation at Stamford Bridge as the London club are struggling to reach an agreement with the player on securing his future with a new contract.

Over 18 Premier League appearances, the £80k-per-week ace – who was hailed the “full package” by Thomas Tuchel – has scored three goals, registered two assists and successfully completed 60% of his dribbles, as well as averaging 1.6 shots on goal, 1.4 key passes, 1.6 tackles and 4.1 duels won per game.

In fact, Klopp could land the perfect Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain upgrade with the signing of Mount as the 29-year-old midfielder is one of the Liverpool players currently in the last few months of his contract and set for an Anfield exit this summer.

When comparing the attacking-minded positional peers, Mount has outperformed Oxlade-Chamberlain in a number of attributes this season including goal contributions (5 v 1), pass completion rate (75.3% v 73.7%), shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (3.17 v 2.64), tackles won (16 v 4), successful dribbles (53.6% v 30.8%) and ball recoveries (69 v 19).

Let’s start easy – how many points did Liverpool collect in their 2021/22 Premier League campaign?

Not only that, just like the Liverpool stalwart, the 23-year-old is extremely versatile in his positioning, featuring across a number of midfield positions and also has experience playing on both the left and right-wing too, something that Klopp is a big fan of as he likes to deploy his players in a number of different roles.

With that being said, the signing of Mount would be a major coup for the powers at Anfield and could make a huge difference in the centre of the pitch for the Reds in their pursuit to get back to dominating in both the Premier League and Europe next season.
