Spurs have verbal offer for Premier League star rejected
Tottenham Hotspur are back in action on Sunday when they face rivals Arsenal in what promises to be a thrilling north London derby.
Antonio Conte’s team have been inconsistent of late, and they now host an Arsenal side that currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Spurs have won just three of their last eight league games, and the Italian looks likely to delve into the transfer market this month in an attempt to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Now, it has emerged that The Lilywhites have already had an offer rejected for a player.
According to Football Insider, the London side have had a verbal offer for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Leandro Trossard rejected.
Tottenham were looking to sign the Belgium international, who is set to be out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
The 28-year-old has been in fine form so far this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 16 Premier League games.
He has been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs, including Spurs’ rivals Chelsea, but it appears that The Seagulls are intent on keeping hold of the player.
Trossard joined Brighton from Belgian side Genk in 2019 and has since made more than 120 appearances for the club.
The winger was part of the Belgium side that failed to qualify from their group at the World Cup in Qatar, making three appearances at the tournament.
Despite the player nearing the end of his current deal, Brighton are believed to have the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.
Spurs are said to have been in talks with Brighton over a proposed deal, although the player himself has previously admitted that he would be interested in a reunion with former Seagulls boss Graham Potter, who has since taken charge of Chelsea.
Having entered into the final six months of his current deal, Trossard would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club from this month onwards.
