Man United vs. Wolves: Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim hands debut to 20-year-old academy star

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim hands a first-team debut to Tyler Fredricson in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has handed a first-team debut to Tyler Fredricson, as the Red Devils welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-year-old has been on the bench twice in the Premier League this season, and he has now been called upon from the start, with the centre-back preparing to make his first-team debut for the 20-time English champions.

The 6ft defender will line up in a back three with Noussair Mazraoui and Victor Lindelof, who are both available for selection despite having to leave Old Trafford at the interval of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Lyon for personal reasons.

Christian Eriksen is also included, as is Harry Amass, with the youngster rewarded for his impressive performance off the bench in the spectacular 5-4 victory over Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Amass is expected to line up as the left-sided wing-back, with Patrick Dorgu moving across to the right, while Bruno Fernandes is only on the bench, with the club captain being rested.

Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Casemiro have also dropped down to a bench which includes Chido Obi, who is expected to receive Premier League action in the coming weeks following Joshua Zirkzee‘s injury.

Mason Mount is not yet deemed ready to start, with the Englishman again set to receive more minutes off the bench, but there is a position in the XI for Kobbie Mainoo, who scored off the bench against Lyon.

Why has Amorim rotated his side?

Amorim has vowed to rely on youngsters and squad players in the Premier League for the rest of the campaign, as he will be keeping his key men fresh for the Europa League.

Indeed, the Red Devils will tackle Athletic Bilbao over two legs in the semi-finals, with the first match taking place at San Mames on May 1, before the return fixture at Old Trafford one week later.

Man United have a clear week ahead of next weekend’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth, with the first leg against Athletic then taking place before a trip to Brentford in the Premier League.

Amorim’s side are 14th in the Premier League table, with their worst-ever season in the competition in terms of points already being confirmed, but winning the Europa League this season would secure a spot in the 2025-26 Champions League.
