Man United star’s proposed exit could collapse

Manchester United travel to Romania to face FCSB in their final Europa League group game on Thursday evening.

Despite their poor Premier League form, Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit fourth in the 36-team table and are on the verge of securing automatic qualification for the last 16 of the competition.

Off the pitch the January transfer window is fast approaching its deadline, and a number of United’s first team players have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford.

Now, though, it appears that one player’s proposed departure may fall through.

According to CaughtOffside, Casemiro’s proposed move to Italian side AS Roma depends on the Serie A outfit’s ability to offload Leandro Paredes.

The report claims that Roma have been in talks with the 32-year-old’s representatives, and it had looked likely that he would make the switch to the Italian capital before the end of the current window.

Roma manager Claudio Ranieri is said to be keen on the idea of signing the Brazilian – who has played more than 300 times for Real Madrid and over 100 times for United – due to his experience.

Casemiro has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United this month

Now, though, it has emerged that the Serie A side will only be able to sign the midfielder if Paredes can be offloaded, and the 30-year-old is struggling to attract significant interest in his services.

Saudi Pro League sides Al-Nassr and Al-Shabab have shown interest in Casemiro and could offer him an alternative route out of Manchester, but the report claims that the player himself is reluctant to move to the Middle East at this point in his career.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 and has since made more than 100 appearances for the club across all competitions, winning two domestic cups.

The Brazil international’s contract with the Red Devils is set to run until the end of next season, and the report suggests that Manchester United are therefore willing to accept offers as low as £15 million in order to offload the veteran midfielder.
