Man City consider move for Liverpool target
Liverpool moved top of the Premier League table courtesy of a 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday.
Ibrahima Konate had put the visitors in front at Molineux, before Rayan Air-Nouri levelled things up.
The Reds hit back almost instantly through Mohamed Salah, and Arne Slot’s side held on to record a fifth win of the Premier League season so far.
Off the pitch, though, Liverpool may have been dealt a significant transfer blow.
According to Football Insider, Manchester City are plotting a move for Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi.
The Real Sociedad star was a target for the Reds during the recent transfer window, but the Merseyside outfit ultimately failed to agree a deal.
It is claimed, though, that the player has since reconsidered his decision to reject a move to the Premier League, and City could look to sign him in the wake of Rodri’s long-term injury.
Sociedad are likely to demand a significant fee for the 25-year-old, though, and pursuing a deal in January could therefore prove tricky.
Zubimendi is a product of Sociedad’s youth academy and will soon make his 200th appearance for the Spanish side across all competitions.
The Spaniard also impressed over the summer for Spain, helping his nation to glory at the European Championships in Germany.
He replaced Rodri at half-time in the final against England, helping his side to a 2-1 win against the Three Lions.
Zubimendi’s current deal with Sociedad is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but the La Liga outfit could cash in on him prior to that date.
In Rodri’s absence, City boss Pep Guardiola is likely to look to the likes of Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis.
